DOCKROYD GRAVEYARD
RESTORATION PROJECT
ACTION PLAN
Stage 1. Take the opportunity that has arisen to purchase the property as without ownership any control over the future of the graveyard is minimal.
Stage 2. Restore the graveyard in a way that allows the families and general public to pay their respects to the people buried here. The graveyard can make an important contribution to the Oakworth Conservation Area and as an area of local historical significance, so the preservation of the gravestones and their setting will be a priority. A balance will be made between heritage and wildlife, safe access to the public and the needs of butterfoplies, birds and wild flowers.
Stage 3. Find a way of ensuring that the site can be maintained and enjoyed in the future so that the neglect can never again happen.
HOW ANYONE CAN HELP
I am aware that to many people the state of the graveyard has been a concern for a number of years. I am also aware there are many willing helpers who would like to contribute to the restoration plan. I would like to involve any families, groups or individuals who want to participate.
With this in mind the following options are offered:-
1. Anyone with photos of the graveyard in former years is invited to share them with me as this will help in planning the restoration.
2. Anyone with stories, family history information, photos or obituaries of those buried here is invited to share them with me to enable a story of the graveyard to be co-ordinated and recorded before it is forgotten forever.
3. Purchase my new book HEATONS OF WORTH which tell stories of the Heaton family’s historic involvement with the Worth Valley including Dockroyd graveyard.
Profits from the sale of the book will go towards the costs of the Restoration Project.
4. Anyone with a particularly skill that is willing to volunteer that skill and their time to assist the restoration is asked to come forward. All offers of help will be gratefully considered. Any willing volunteers can phone Project Manager Paul on 07850 671117.
5. Anyone who would like to contribute to the project with a financial donation can do so by following the donate button below:
